"when i right click saved an .sh file from github it actually gave me an html file"
yeah because that's how github works. the file entry is a url to another page, and if you try to save a page in a browser it saves as html. what does that have to do with linux
"i thought you didn't need to turn things off and back on in linux to get them to work"
literally what. obs is an app. obs isn't an operating system, nor is it linux
"i didnt know which discord to choose. there's discord and discord canary, whatever that is"
it's literally just the discord canary app. developed and released by discord. it's also on windows. what does the availability of discord canary in aur have to do with linux being bad or something
so the part where he didn't get notifications from discord?
that's because he had obs open, and discord automatically enables streamer mode when another streaming app is open so you dont accidentally leak something or whatever
that didnt even have anything to do with linux. its just how discord streamer mode works. it disables notifications
@AgathaSorceress linus is probably the like one person in the universe who could actually like push them to release that
re: ltt moment
@AgathaSorceress i do not know things about the software i use and somehow this is the linux foundation's fault
@AgathaSorceress ah yes the problem with linux is actually github (microsoft), OBS, and discord. yeah. that's why linux sucks
@AgathaSorceress microsoft paid linus computer noobery to make up obvious bullshit knowing his followers would take it at face value
@haskal it gets even better when the problem with linux is that
- web browsers behave like they behave on windows
- obs requires a reload to fix a glitch
- you can download discord canary
@AgathaSorceress people seem to treat the command line on linux as like, a mandatory thing that you have to use
if you don't know what you're doing don't open the fucking terminal
open the ubuntu store, search for what u need, and click install. it's not supposed to be difficult
@haskal yeah agree
and like. the whole video the other guy was like "i just used the graphical package manager and everything was fine" but of course linus really wanted to run a debian command on manjaro
@AgathaSorceress thank you. i've been pretty sympathetic to a lot of the "linux users will just be hateful & disregard everything he says" posts. but this is some real shit i greatly appreciate having indexed & available. high information, pro-social job, well done. like linux users believe in. represent!
@AgathaSorceress my first linux experience was with SuSE 7.1, kernel 2.2 and KDE 2 maybe?? I played with it a few weeks and loved it but wasn't able to get my soft winmodem to work and had to install Windows again to enjoy that sweet 50-kbit internet connection
I definitely agree, I think the perspective of this being a challenge is what's amplifying all these annoyances for him
@AgathaSorceress I think you can even install apt with pacman
not that it's a good idea but still 😅
@AgathaSorceress hi we're linux. we don't believe in proprietary control. we believe in trying to do broadly for ourselves & each other.
and yeah a lot of the others out there don't get it. they don't help. i'm not afraid to say in many cases they don't know how to help themselves, help us. and the good new world could do more to help the confused old commercial world.
but we don't really need them? we're going to reverse & make the better world, with or without them & their support. and we'll do it better.
@AgathaSorceress I wonder, will he complain about poor NVidia performance? Will he complain about not being able to watch Netflix?
@AgathaSorceress he never said it's linux's fault. For all we know from the video, he may as well be blaming the manufacturer for that. And in case of NVidia, I think he ecplicitely blamed them.
Also, if you're just a noob wondering if you should switch to Linux, stuff like "$vendorSoftware doesn't have a Linux version or equivalent" is a pretty serious issue and good to be aware of, rehardless of who is to blame.
@AgathaSorceress that video was so frustrating! He never made an honest effort to understand what he was doing and he never even read what he was doing.
The whole video felt kinda mean, like he already had an opinion formed and was just seeking to validate it
@AgathaSorceress to be fair, github is confusing to devs as well, and the "raw" button should be just called download
