What the fuck? Mastodon 2.4.1 is pretty bad.

Sylvhem :heart_pride: @Sylvhem

In Mastodon 2.4.1, the Getting Started menu:
1. as now the same icon than the list menu;
2. no longer contains links to the suspended and silenced accounts;
3. always display the same content, regardless of what columns are pinned;
4. half of the links (including the logout AND the link to /about/more) are now tiny and at the bottom instead of being shown as regular entries.

@dashie It used to be good :(. And it could be easily improved.

Seriously, in the latest versions, the only place where a link to /about/more was prominently displayed was the Getting Started menu. That was criticized various time, because a lot of new users missed the rules because of that.
And now it's even worse!

@louise Wait, seriously? How? I thought it was dropped?
We don't have that here.

@Sylvhem @louise

Si cherche un hashtag dans la barre de recherche.

@louise Ça ne doit prendre en compte que les hashtags locaux au moins.

@Nocta

Seriously, I'm so fucking angry right now.

Look, trending hashtags are not even on the final release note, what the fuck?

github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

@MightyPork They don't look really removed to me.

@Sylvhem @MightyPork There's still usage information, but no way to see what's trending

@renatolond At least it won't be used as an harassment engine. But now I have this totally useless feature who take a lot of visual space in the column. Nice 👌.

@MightyPork

@Sylvhem @renatolond i'm really glad we don't use vanilla here because the vanilla Getting Started column is really sad

@MightyPork @Sylvhem Yeah, a revert back to pre-"trending" idea would've been better, a lot of unused space now that could have the links back .-.

@renatolond Yeah… That's probably a good idea to sort them based on their use, but there is no need to display things like that --'.

@MightyPork

@Sylvhem @MightyPork I think they’ll be removed in 2.4.2 or something like that.
If I remember well the removal or trends is still in a separated branch.

@lanodan @Sylvhem @MightyPork trends are definitely gone in master since at least my last deploy a few days ago, and probably before that but my memory is failing me here

@bea @lanodan @MightyPork Yeah, like someone pointed out, that's not really trends but only the popularity of each hashtags.

@Sylvhem @lanodan @MightyPork ahhhhhhhhh in the search results, gotcha. that was added before the trending thing and is still around. i don't think it's going anywhere

@bea @MightyPork @Sylvhem So breaking ``/api/v1/search`` with ``/api/v2/search`` got introduced over ~nothing?

At least, those can't be used as a tool for harassment campaign. But that's also a feature that is totally useless unless you're on a really big instance like mastodon.social, Switter or Pawoo.
Thank you for taking all the visual space 👍.

Also, I love how this feature basically make every, small, medium and even some large instances looking like they are almost empty.

"Nobody is talking about this nor that. Nobody, personne, nada, 0. Look, this chart is flat."

@Sylvhem Gargamel and the “nobody is on mastodon” thing.
This thing is just a huge fail.

@renatolond@masto.donte.com.brWell, at least, it may improve other time…

@louise

@Sylvhem Si au moins c'était désactivable dans les paramètres de l'instance, comme Gargron a demandé de faire pour pas mal de PR (genre les colonnes qui prennent la largeur) :x

@Sylvhem it looks okayish to me, but not really useful overall with the low hashtag use

@Thib Yeah. That's not a disaster, but if I had to choose I will remove it without any second thought.

@eliotberriot The trends were. But now, it's not trends anymore, it's just a popularity measurement of searched hashtags.

Morality: when you don't pay your UI designers, when you say it's all you who made a website, when those UI designers quit the project because of your selfishness, you will indeed need to do the whole thing by yourself and it will have a very poor UI.

@Sylvhem I really don't like this update either...

@Sylvhem I didn't even know the log out button was there, that's really bad

@Sapphaos To be fair, it is also in the header of the first column.

@Sylvhem I'm on mobile it's the only log out button I can find...

@Sylvhem I opened an issue specifically about the weird location of the muted/blocked accounts a week ago and no one even bothered responding yet 🤷

@elomatreb No one ether bother to respond --'.

@Sylvhem So all the links that were in the Getting Started are in the tiny-ass profile menu 😪

@Sylvhem what kills me is that this is a fairly big change in UI and you can bet your ass _nothing_ in the UI will inform users where the stuff went. Instead they'll be told to read the changelog to find the one sentence where it's explained 🙄

@Eramdam @Sylvhem Fairly change in the UI that should have not been part a minor release (would have more sense in 2.4.0 than in 2.4.1).
