@Sylvhem We use * and /, then + and -. People tell me that in some places they use * then / then + then -, but I'd never heard of that until this stuff started coming up, so I find myself assuming that people just forgot the Order of Operations after highschool going into adult life and replaced it with something that sounds simpler and more orderly in their heads.

The purpose of the mathematical language is to be non ambiguous. How does this work?
For me, the post concluding this thread is obviously wrong. Are my math just super rusty and I should be ashamed, or are people in France and in the USA not using the same notation?
