I made the mistake of upgrading ubuntu to 18.04

Suddenly, my keyboard and mouse stopped working.

After three hours, I figured out what it was: they fucking have a USB whitelist now, where all USB devices not on the list are disabled by default.

@djsundog @enkiv2 it would be smarter to use udev to whitelist device functions rather than device IDs. That way you can permit any kind of keyboard or storage device while disallowing random Trojans.

@phooky
Reference: the new contents of /sys/bus/usb/, where every device is disabled.

What?
Ps Ubuntu 18.04 update is hurt me too, but on Nvidia Prime side

@enkiv2 Yipe, I wonder if they’ve heard of Kinesis keyboards.

@rocky1138
I figure.

It almost makes sense: ubuntu is the designated noob distro, and there are plenty of malicious dongles that'll happily fry the controller. They might blame canonical for not protecting them.

But, the variety of legitimate usb devices is incredibly high, and most of them are generic-ass HID devices with unknown brands. Plus, the workaround for this is pretty technical (echoing "1" as root to the 'authorized' file for the device in /sys/bus/usb). No noob will do that.
