@goodberry It depends on the topic tbh. I usually like fiction more

@glitteringtrees

There's a book called Aspergirls which might help some, it explains how a lot of girls grow up with (at the time) Aspergers but nowadays just autism in general I would call it.

Nazi mention

@goodberry I heard that that book was good! I like the aspergirls subreddit as well!

Nazi mention

@glitteringtrees

🙂 yeah, I have it on my ereader. I relate to some things in it, heh.

Nazi mention

@goodberry I find it very helpful! Also why is this CW as nazi mention? Should I CW the original post?

Nazi mention

@glitteringtrees

No, you shouldn't. Hans Asperger was a Nazi or at least worked with them which makes him at least Nazi adjacent.

Nazi mention

@goodberry oh I didn’t know that. That’s terrible!

Nazi mention

@glitteringtrees

Yeah, a lot of our history is hidden from us, sadly, I mean don't even get me started on the label/name/word autism but sadly it's the best we have for now to explain it easily, heh.

Nazi mention

@glitteringtrees

Apologies for hijacking your thread, heh. 😅

Nazi mention

@goodberry oh why would you apologize! You always give good advice and are fun to talk to! :)

Nazi mention

@glitteringtrees

Awh, thank you, just didn't want to take away from you talking about the other person or that guy but thank you, I appreciate it a lot 😁

nazis

@goodberry I definitely agree. In school, I was taught that nazis were a thing of the past. Now I know that a lot of people back then were nazis, and so are a lot of people now

nazis

@glitteringtrees

Yeah or at the very least fascists in general, I really wish school would have taught me more about history, not the watered down version that made the country I live in and its allies look good, but I know now so, heh. I like learning history from different perspectives and hidden history too 🙂

genocide

@goodberry Yeah, as an American, I remember learning almost nothing about native genocide. It was ridiculous.

Ooh do you have any hidden history recommendations?

genocide

@glitteringtrees

I remember watching Forest Gump in history class and learning about the war instigated by the USA in Vietnam and thinking about how bad it was, I later went to Vietnam and saw a lot of the history still standing and finding it fascinating.

I know of a few podcasts, a few books and a few youtube channels here and there, however, despite what it may seem my brain isn't working all that great currently so I will have to dig them out another time if that is okay?

genocide

@goodberry oh yeah that’s fine!! Yeah forrest gump/other movies about the history of the us are completely bunk. By misrepresenting history, they tried to get us to have patriotism, but they ended up just disrespecting the dead.

genocide

@glitteringtrees

Have you ever seen the excellent (in my opinion) youtube channel Renegade Cut? The creator is very leftist, probably an anarchist and does a lot of videos on politics but usually explaining it through movies or video games etc, I really like how he does it 🙂

genocide

@goodberry I think I’ve heard the name! I usually just watch john oliver and hbomberguy so I need to expand my horizons!

genocide

@glitteringtrees

Oh, there are quite a few channels I like in that vein, feel free to ask me for reccomendations. Also do you watch Patriot Act? I think Hassan Minhaj is hilarious!
