Profile header image description. Spoiler Star Trek Discovery.

A close-up shot of Commander Michael Burnham's face. She is wearing a spacesuit and looking intensely at her brother Spock, who is off-screen to the left. Spock's hand, raised in the Vulcan farewell gesture, is half obscuring Burnham's face. Her gloved hand is also raised, returning the gesture. Burnham is about to embark on a one-way trip to a thousand years into the future. The siblings will likely never see each other again.

"... filming Star Trek in Canada. I was surrounded by a huge cast and crew of people I'd basically just met. But when I did tell people, I was stunned to find that this massive group of strangers wholeheartedly accepted and validated me. They welcomed me in with open arms. When I looked like I needed help, someone would go out of their way to help me. If someone had a question about my identity, they asked it thoughtfully and kindly."

Re

Hi everyone, I’m moving over to eldritch.cafe from mastodon.social so I figured I would post a reintroduction

Well as my bio says I’m Shahaan—Canadian, mid-30s, I go by he/him pronouns and I’m vegetarian

I’ve been active on Mastodon for over a year now and I generally have positive interactions with people on here

I’m a Pakistani Zoroastrian by ethnicity, grew up in Toronto, and have a BA Anthropology from McMaster

I continue learning everyday

The Sun is, on average, 150 million kilometers from Earth

150 Centimeters from Australia

covid, mean-spirited

@shahaan @ljwrites I continue to find it hilarious that the War of 1812, which was billed as like, "american revolution part 2," basically ended with both sides going "eh, fuck it," declaring victory, and going home.

This is among the most important media files I have saved on my computer.

emigration fundraiser, boosts+

As we have mentioned before, @lilletale and I are going to move in together before Christmas. Now, it turns out that stuffing your household into a van and getting that van across a sea is a rather costly thing to do, therefore we would much appreciate any support we can get to make a good and healthy home together where we can thrive and pay it forward. Any amount helps.

Looks down at wristwatch, fully expecting it to be... oh, somewhere around 14:00?

It’s 16:30.

WHAT THE?! :blob_disapproval:

Bob’s nationality

After a lot of thinking, I switched across to calling myself “English” & using 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 for my online profiles.

For many years I stuck with “British” and 🇬🇧 because it felt more inclusive to other UK nations. I realise that’s actually quite an Anglocentric and imperial way of looking at things. 🤦‍♂️

I’m also not on board with the jingoism around Brexit, and suspect the union probably won’t be around much longer.

That being the case, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 needs reclaiming from those that have co-opted it.

"You’ve likely never heard of 82-year-old computer scientist Lynn Conway, but her discoveries power your smartphones and computers."

Thanks to the @haecksen I even have a sticker about her on my laptop with the phrase "hack the cistem". Her story has to be heard, and she's an inspiration for trans women.

I'm angry

Fuck parents fuck borders

Fuck abusers and governments and gatekeepers

@shahaan @ljwrites yeah sometimes it's confusing and takes a while to figure out what exactly it is

Kids may know they really don't like something before they're able to articulate why, but there's almost always a good reason

the #ASL word for "trans" is the same morpheme as "beautiful" but signed over your heart, where you'd sign self 😭

Continuing in the sarcasm

@balrogboogie @anarchiv @shahaan why even have other languages at all, after all, it's 2020, *literally everyone on earth* speaks English

*adds "fluent in swearing in more than half a dozen languages" to CV*

paperwork in germany:
"your email cannot be answered at the moment, please call this number" "sorry, i cant help you, try this number instead" "all operators are currently busy, please try again later" "yes hello. no, we cant do that on the phone, please send the following documents in a letter to the address below" "we still need the following documents from you"

paperwork in norway:
*click* *click* *click* *send scan* *confirm* "thank you, your request will be processed as soon as possible, have a nice day"

any argument in favor of "offensive" comedy falls apart entirely when you consider how many people dissolve into hysterical laughter over utter nonsense like "bone apple teeth" or the persistence of weird al
