Polly Jackson was an escaped slave who settled in the community of Africa, Ohio and worked as an agent of the Underground Railroad helping others escape. Polly was known for fighting off slave catchers with a butcher knife and a kettle of boiling water.

In my head now she is the inspiration for the nursery rhyme "Polly Put the Kettle On" and nothing will convince me other wise.
